The Nokia E72, arguably Nokia's greatest stab at the Blackberry Curve, is now being sold to U.S. customers on Amazon.com for around $469 (a welcome step down in price from its price in Euros, equating to $525 U.S.). The E72 is primarily a messaging and email phone, with a built-in desktop email client and chat, and is being targeted at the business community.

Meanwhile, as Palm rolls out its Palm Pixi, analysts and prognosticators are buzzing about the rumors coming out late last week that Nokia might purchase the faltering Palm.

Thanks to Amazon.com (of course), consumers can now get their own HTC T-Mobile G1 smartphone, the premier Google phone running on its Android OS, for under $100. Ordinarily selling for $180, Amazon.com is offering the same device for almost half that price--$98.

The catch? It isn't even really a big catch, to be honest. To get the deal, you just have to sign up for a new contract with T-Mobile. So the only people "negatively" affected would be existing T-Mobile customers who won't be eligible for the deal.

Even the monarch of price-slashers--WalMart--can't beat this deal, offering the same device for $150.

And in related news, a software update wil be available soon for the G1 that enables it with the one feature most commonly complained about it lacking--an onscreen keyboard. It seems only natural a touchscreen smartphone would have such a feature, and thankfully, the Android developers didn't take too long to catch on (especially after a 3rd party app maker already beat them to the punch with free app aKeyUI).

Surely this great deal on the G1 must have something to do with the next generation, the G2 (aka the HTC Magic) already coming to market.

Calling last year's Nokia N95 "peerless" in terms of sheer feature set - even compared against the coveted iPhone - PC Magazine is simply raving about the new and improved Nokia N95, as luck would have it - a U.S. model.

Improvements in the new Nokia N95 include:

8 gigs of memory - like the latest European model (though unfortunately without the added memory card slot)

raised bumps on the buttons - specifically the music access buttons, making it easier to find them and control your music listening without fiddling too much with your phone

Easy access web services - like Yahoo! Search, Flickr (Yahoo!'s photo sharing service), and Amazon's MobiPocket e-book reader

Most importantly, of course, the U.S. model works on AT&T's HSPDA system high-speed network.

Read all about it, plus some of its minuses, in Nokia Super Smart Phone Gets Upgrade
