HTC Touch Dual Review

HTC Touch DualA hot-seller for months in Europe and Asia, the HTC Touch Dual has finally made its way to the U.S. This is the first smartphone released with the new Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system.

HTC has been the best at making and marketing WinMo smartphones, integrating its own, more user-friendly GUI into their devices so that users barely realize they're using the reputedly clunky (if powerful) WinMo OS. HTC has further refined the use of hardware keys for more intuitive functionality. Even the use of on-screen shortcuts has been improved with this model.

Boasting its flagship TouchFLO technology, allowing users to pan, scroll, and zoom in and out with "the flick of a finger", incorporated with a rotating 3D touch cube the HTC Touch Dual makes for even quicker and simpler content, feature, and application access. It's got a generous 2.6" QVGA touch screen so you can finally stop squinting to your display.

The HTC Touch Dual also has a slide-out keyboard with 20 keys instead of the standard 12, with two letters for each key rather than three, making it that much easier and faster to text and dial with one hand alone. Users preferring a full QWERTY-keyboard, however, should continue their smartphone search elsewhere.

The HTC Touch Dual also boasts a built-in predictive technology much like SureType for conveniently finishing your thoughts for you. That said, 20-key keypad notwithstanding, most all of the features of the HTC Touch Dual can be controlled while in the closed position, without even sliding out the keyboard.

The HTC Touch Dual is compatible with the AT&T 3G network, but then one-ups it with 3.5 G giving it lightning-fast speeds up to 9 times faster than standard 3G, while also supporting dual-band HSDPA and GSM/EDGE, giving the HTC Touch Dual worldwide connectivity. Call quality is better than ever with the Touch Dual, as is dialing convenience, with a grid layout of pictures for the easiest in speed dialing.

The device's LiveHTC Home screen gives users instant access to all the information and applications they most frequently rely on - from weather to one-touch ringtone selection to the convenient Quick Launcher.

The device comes with not one but two cameras - a 2.0 megapixel digital camera for taking pics and videos, and a second camera for conducting video calls. The HTC Touch Dual does have Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity but sadly it does not sport Wi-Fi connectivity. It comes with 128 MB RAM plus a microSD memory card slot for expandable storage capacity. Battery life averages about 5 hours.

HTC Touch DualThe device sells for $680 direct from the HTC website, however you can now run out and buy the HTC Touch Dual at your local Best Buy for just $549 unlocked.
